Year 12 in the coming weeks

Over the coming weeks our Year 12 students will be preparing for graduation whilst consolidating their knowledge, learning and skills in preparation for the HSC examinations.  It is a very exciting time, but also a time that will be challenging and daunting for many.  We would like Year 12 to be aware that their teachers are available to support them in the coming weeks and months as their schooling draws to a close.

Of course, many of our students have already begun their HSC examinations and we congratulate and extend our prayers and thoughts to our Languages students, as they began their Language HSC practical examinations on Saturday 10 August  and continue to undertake the exams across the coming weekends.  Our HSC practical examinations for Drama occur onsite next week and our Design and Technology and Visual Arts students officially submit their Body of Works and projects within the next few weeks.  We also extend our support and prayers to the Music students who will complete their HSC practical examinations in the coming weeks as well. Good luck to all of you.

Today Year 12 students also had the privilege of learning from the wisdom of Dr Prue Salter, who provided a session on revision and organisational strategies in the lead up to the HSC examinations. Students enthusiastically engaged with her activities, noting down strategies on how to maximise their study time here at school and at home over the coming weeks.  Dr Salter’s key message was that they now need to seize the day here at school and make the most of all learning opportunities that remain.  Parents are encouraged to review the handout from the session with students and ask them to explain their study plan as often discussing these ideas can clarify their approach. Parents can also find extra study skills tips here  and students can download the slides from the session and extra copies of the grid here. All secondary students at our school also have access to a great study skills website to help students develop their skills. To access the website, click here  and enter the username: loretonh and the password: loretonh

Year 12 Graduation occurs in Week 9 on Friday 20 September.  This is the date that Year 12 officially graduate from Loreto Normanhurst and a time when the Loreto community acknowledges their success.  After this date Year 12 students are encouraged to attend school between Monday 14 October and the commencement of the HSC on Thursday 17 October to engage with their teachers and each other for revision purposes. We know from our historical data that if students collaborate in their preparation for the examinations, working together to improve, the results of the entire cohort benefit.  It does not pay for the girls to compete against each other – it is in their best interests to support each other and continue with what they do so well here at Loreto Normanhurst – collaborative learning.

Additionally, Year 12 students are advised to have a break in the last week of Term 3 from Monday 23 to Friday 27 September as they will not have access to the LRC or to their teachers during this week. Students are invited to study in the LRC throughout the HSC period in Term 4.

Please visit the NESA website   for key HSC dates, the HSC timetable and general study advice.

Best wishes to all our Year 12 students as they manage these final moments of their schooling journey!
