Ignatian Interschool Forum
On Tuesday 30 October, ten Year 11 students attended the final Ignatian Interschool Student Forum for the year.
Loreto Normanhurst, along with four other Ignatian schools in Sydney, travelled to St. Aloysius’ College in Milsons Point to discuss the topic of ‘Care for our Common Home – LAUDATO SI’. This Ignatian forum was focused around reflecting on the issues which impact our own lives, the lives of others and our earth, each day.
Through an Ignatian lens, we explored four main issues: loss of biodiversity, pollution, water and the throwaway culture, the issue of water and finally global inequality. There were many pertinent and imminent facts that we explored during the afternoon, including the statistic that by 2050, there will be as many fish in the ocean as plastic items. The student led forum gave us a great chance to discuss the impacts of global warming and in doing so, develop an action plan within our schools so we can impact changes now that will provide a better future for ‘our common home’.
This was a great way to wrap up an incredible year in which we were able to develop relationships with others who hold similar views to our own, and engage in conversations about world issues affecting us today and ensure we act to make positive change.
