What a wonderful way to end Term 1! The Music Festival was a celebration of the variety, talent and enjoyment of music at Loreto Normanhurst.

After two terms of musical preparation from the House Conductors, Accompanists and Ensemble Directors, we were ready for the performance. The first half of the Music Festival was a showcase from the Music Department featuring the large musical ensembles –  Choir, Orchestra, Chamber Strings, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, solo and group items and also the Primary Choir and Primary Strings. All performed extremely well which was a testament to the work of the staff and the students.

The long awaited second half began and as we all know with the House Choirs and they were amazing. The adjudicator had difficult decisions to make and was very impressed with the high standards.  After some deliberation she awarded the following:

Best Accompanist: Emma Bower (Aston House)

Best Conductor:    Sophie Andreou (Barry House)

Best Choir:             Barry House

Spirit Cup:              Ward House

It was a wonderful experience for all of the students, performing in a world class venue with a very large and appreciative audience.

This term senior music students are focussing on their assessments; performing, composing and also listening and analysing pieces from many styles of music. The HSC music students will start rehearsing with their chosen ensembles and this year we have our music tutors helping us out again, providing backing ensembles and giving the girls some excellent advice for their performance preparation.

The Year 10 students are preparing for their Performance Evening which is on Tuesday 4th June, starting at 6.30pm in the Curran Theatre. Each student will prepare a piece for the night. Parents and friends are of course welcome to attend.

Many students are enrolled for AMEB exams this term in a variety of instruments and they are also working hard. We have a large number of students enrolled in private music lessons and our tutors thoroughly prepare these students for performances and examinations.
