Term 2 was off to a busy start for the music students. The Vocal Ensemble was  invited to record the song, ‘Felicity’, especially written for the school’s 120 Years celebration by our talented ex-student, Katie Hardyman (Class of ’88).

This beautiful song also featured at the ‘Loreto Lunch and Lyrics’ function  for our Golden Jubilarians in the Reception Room on Tuesday 16 June. This event was an ideal opportunity to showcase our talented music students from a number of year groups and featured a variety of musical styles.

Our elective students have attended each Meet the Music performance at the Opera House, providing them with access to different musical repertoires. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the recent concert featuring the versatile vocalist, Kate Miller-Heidke, who performed with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

On Sunday 14 May a group of students provided the music for the mass at Our Lady, Queen of Peace in Normanhurst. The congregation were very appreciative of the girls and they performed beautifully. The girls involved were Clodagh Bray, Lauren Cooley, Emily Chan, Lucy Blomfield, Imogen Whitnall, Grace Campbell, Alice Compton and Claire O’Connor.

The Year 12 Music 2 and Music 1 students are now well into their preparation for their HSC Performance Programs. We are very grateful to our wonderful music tutors, particularly Miss Alice Hanna, Mrs Virginia Matcham, Mr Patrick Muldrew and Mr Rob Oetomo for their work in accompanying the girls. It is a huge undertaking to rehearse all the performances which are many and varied. The accompanying ensembles include the school Vocal Ensemble, Piano, Bass, Drums, Guitar, Percussion, Marimba, Violin and Cello. Our music tutors provide these accompaniments plus invaluable advice and encouragement for the girls.  It is a very exciting time.

Many students are in the process of undertaking AMEB Examinations on their instruments and we have had some excellent results. Special congratulations to Felice Tan (Year 12) on attaining her Associate Diploma (A. Mus A) on the Piano. This is a truly wonderful achievement.
