Head of House – Barry
It has been another exciting and involved year so far for Barry House. Term One is always busy as the whole house rehearses every Tuesday and Thursday lunch time to prepare for Music Festival. This year our song was “Ain’t no Mountain High Enough” and the girls were led very admirably by Grace Haydon as our House Conductor, Kate Nicol our Accompanist and Gina Rees our House Music leader. The girls all put in an amazing effort on the night and produced their best performance.
Another focus for Term One is Project Compassion. This is led by our House Social Justice Leader Casey Jacobs who worked closely with Rachel Parsons as the school Social Justice Captain. The generosity of each family is appreciated and the funds raised go some way to helping those less fortunate.
Staying within our social justice focus, Term Two is a special term for our Year 11’s as they had the opportunity to lead the school to raise awareness of an issue selected by their cohort. This year the chosen cause was Nyumbani Children’s Home in Kenya which supports children and families affected or orphaned by HIV/AIDS. The Barry Year 11’s showed their organisational abilities as they successfully coordinated the Barry Disco and Hot Chips stalls to raise funds and motivated students to sell raffle tickets, buy badges and donate prizes for the silent auction. It was another successful event showcasing our future leaders.
Term Three started with a rather wet Athletics Carnival at Homebush and our theme was Barry Boot Camp. The rain did not dampen Barry House as the girls cheered and sang their way to win the Spirit Cup. Congratulations to all of the year 12’s and especially to Amy Phillips our Sport Leader and Rosie Warren our House Captain. The success of the day was the collective and continual efforts of all of the girls in the House.
Term Three also signifies endings and beginnings as we spend this last term with our Year 12’s and welcome our new House leaders. Congratulations to Georgia Pauling who was elected as our House Captain for the next year. I know she is excited to work with the rest of her year group and the whole House to continue to grow our Barry spirit. We wish Year 12 well in their upcoming Examinations – know that our prayers are with you, as they are with Year 9 as they embark on their amazing adventures in Far North Queensland.
