Extra-curricular News

At Loreto Normanhurst we offer an extensive range of extra-curricular opportunities to our students – everything from sport to the Shakespeare Festival.

It has been a particularly busy time for extra-curricular in the past week. Please read on for a snapshot of some of the events our students have participated in recently.

NSW CIS Cup Football Semi-finals

Congratulations to our cup team who played incredibly well, but in the end lost to the International Football and Tennis School in a tightly fought match.

Shakespeare Festival Regional Finals

Congratulations to our Year 9 students who performed incredibly well. Our duologue entrants, Annika Shankar and Ashlea Ahmed received high praise and strong feedback for their presentation of Nerissa and Portia from The Merchant of Venice. Their witty and moving performance engaged the audience, eliciting warm laughs and appreciation. Our Movement Group, Ciara Karkkainen, Alessia Anderson, Ella Donlevy, Georgia Cluff and Charlotte Cluff won their section against a very tough (and large) field of competitors. They will be moving forward to compete at the State Finals at The Seymour Centre on the weekend of 30th June/1st July.

FPS International Competition Wisconsin University USA

Future Problem Solving has had a jam-packed week with  eight Global Issues booklets completed and sent to Melbourne for evaluation and one Scenario Writing entry completed and sent off for feedback. The International Global Issues Team are currently in the air on their way home after two amazing weeks in the US.  A full report of their time away will be in next week’s newsletter.

Mock Trial

Congratulations to our students who secured a win against Masada College (281/262) in Round 4. The team consisted of Year 10 and Year 11 students – Molly Carter, Rebecca Mayer and Lily Martin,  Breanna Ivankovic, Arta Bayat and Anastasia Leaver.

Archdale Debating

Round 4 – Loreto Normanhurst vs SCEGGS Darlinghurst: With a topic area of Pop Culture and Sport, it was a tough week of debating for our teams with challenging topics, particularly for the intermediate division. Congratulations to the 7B team for their win.

CSDA Debating

Round 6, final rounds! Good luck to our teams debating tonight at Eastwood Marist. We are aiming for a 5:30pm Coin Toss and would love to see a big audience for our last week of rounds. The topic area for tonight is Media. A reminder that the Round 1 playoffs will occur between Monday 18 June and Thursday 21 June. As soon as we get confirmation for venues and times students will be sent an email. Round 2 playoffs will be held on Friday 22 June.

CASE Space Camp

Ten girls from Years 8 and 9 will be attending the CASE Junior Space School Program in the US from 2 July – 15 July. Students attended the preparation evening on Wednesday 30 May and met their travelling companions from other alliance schools. With just over a week until blast off, the excitement is building!

I look forward to sharing more extra-curricular news with you next term.
