Debating – CSDA
Congratulations to all who participated in the opening rounds of CSDA Debating. It was great to be back to face-to-face debates. A reminder that tonight’s debates will be held at St Pius X College, Chatswood. Parents are welcome to attend. CSDA students were sent information earlier in the week detailing parking arrangements at St Pius X College.
The following week, students will travel again to Oakhill College, Castle Hill. Students will be sent information once the times have been confirmed with Oakhill.
Debating – Archdale
Congratulations to all Archdale debaters who have participated in the opening Virtual Rounds. Face-to-face debates are due to resume in Round 4. Round 4 will see students travel via bus to Tara Anglican School. Students have already submitted their permissions for these rounds. Please note that if there are any changes to the permissions, these must be emailed by 2pm on the day of the debate.
We do encourage all Archdale Debaters to participate in Oratory Club to strengthen their skills.
Student vs. Teachers Debate
Congratulations to the staff and students who this week participated in the annual Students vs. Teachers debate at Wednesday’s assembly. It was a heated discussion about whether Loreto Normanhurst Staff should be able to perform on stage at Music Festival. All debaters presented compelling arguments, but ultimately the student’s argument that the Mary Ward Open Circle requires us to be inclusive of all members of the community won the debate. Congratulations to the following staff and students:
Lucy Findlay (Yr 12)
Erin Longney (Yr 12)
Breahna Akerboom (Yr 12)
Mrs. Beth Nairn
Mr. Jason Currao
Mrs. Libby Parker
Thanks also to Mrs Christine Cunningham who presided as the adjudicator.
Some topics from the last week’s debates for you try at home…
- That free speech isn’t.
- That justice should be tempered with mercy.
- That all political parties should have a quota for women.
- That all delivery drivers should be paid an award wage.
If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact myself or the Academic Activities Leaders.
We are also looking for ex-students and parents who wish to be coaches or adjudicators for the Oratory Program in 2021. Please contact the oratory team for further information
