There is a genuine hum of life seven  days a week when a school has a boarding community. Here at Loreto Normanhurst the 152 boarders are well into the swing of  Loreto as we finish week four.

Our first organised weekend in boarding for all the girls  was Commitment Weekend and the Boarder Council along with all the Year 12 girls organised a wonderful weekend of games, an obstacle course, the biggest musical chairs event, and a movie and dance night, culminating with a trip to Clifton Gardens on Sunday.

This year we have 32 new boarders from Years 7-10 and they are settling well into the Loreto community.  Whether you are 11 or 15 years old, sharing space, different routines, and having so many people constantly around you,  is a demanding experience. For some of our boarders there are more girls sleeping in their dormitory than went to their primary school. As you can imagine the constant movement and hum of noise can be challenging but the joy of having so many “sisters” and the variety of activities, sports and co-curricular that Loreto provides keeps the energy level high and the girls busy meeting new friends.

We also have three new GAP students with us this year. Olivia and Laura from the UK and Nicole from South Africa. This adds to our very diverse community. The girls work in the senior and primary school during the day and the boarding school in the evenings and across the weekends. In between their duties they try and see as much of Sydney and the surrounding areas as they can.

Your daughter may have developed a friendship with a boarder and you may like to have her as a guest in your home either for the afternoon, a meal, a day or overnight. If a boarder is going to spend some time with you, you will receive a text which you respond to. If you would like to change details that have been submitted, please ring Boarder Reception on 9487 3500 by 8.00pm Thursday evening and we also encourage you to make contact with the boarder’s parents regarding your proposed arrangements.

The boarding school appreciates any help that you can offer in regards to sport transport, so if you are passing the school  on a Saturday and can collect any boarders from your daughter’s team please let us know. The logistics of ensuring they make their games all over Sydney can be a demanding task.

Our community is unique and the boarding school looks forward to sharing this with you all.
