Dean of Extra-curricular
Extra-curricular activities offer the opportunity to explore a diverse range of skills and interests outside the classroom, develop leadership attributes, improve organisational and time management skills, develop resilience and grit, deal with success and failure, and to make new friends. As an integral part of our FACE curriculum, the E (extra-curricular) component is as valuable as the Faith, Academic and Community aspects; all combine to create a truly holistic program for every student at Loreto Normanhurst.
These activities and opportunities are available to all students through participation in Sport, Music, Oratory, Social Justice, Immersion programs, Future Problem Solving, Clubs, Teams, Overseas Tours and Special Interest Groups. There is something for everyone and I encourage every student in the school to learn a new skill or make friends with other students who have similar interests by involving themselves in the myriad of extra-curricular opportunities available.
This term, students from Years 5 – 12 have participated with great joy and commitment in all of the above. I have witnessed imploding cans and exploding hydrogen balloons in Science Club, great sportsmanship in all Saturday sports, creativity and passion in Public Speaking and talent and commitment in Music. Our students write and edit their own ‘Mary Word’ newspaper; Green Team members strive to ensure we all work to improve our beautiful environment and the student Audio Visual Team look after the technical requirements of our assemblies and school events. These are just a few of the wonderful opportunities on offer.
A Loreto education is one that develops the whole person so please encourage your daughter to join in, participate and develop skills and talents in a variety of areas. Now is the time to take a chance, dream big and have a go at something new and exciting!
