Work Experience

Work Experience with Fine Music 102.5

​Fine Music 102.5 offers work experience for Year 10 students who play an instrument and are passionate about classical or jazz music, to sample an operational radio station based in St Leonards in Sydney.

Work experience at Fine Music provides opportunity for students to meet musicians, composers, audio engineers, and other performance students, and to find out more about the Sydney musical scene.

Students are given a broad introduction to most aspects of our radio station including:

  • Editing pre-recorded programs using audio software
  • Programming from our extensive music library
  • Scripting and program research
  • Presenting pre-recorded programs
  • Administrative work
  • Copy-writing for our social media platforms, website and in-house newsletters.

Work experience at Hunter Water

Work experience at Hunter Water will provide students with hands on experience as well as teach them many valuable workplace skills. Students will be provided with exposure to an operational work environment while gaining guidance and feedback from a skilled supervisor in a work team.

Work experience at Newcastle Art Gallery is an option for creative secondary school students with a passion for art to connect with and learn from the Gallery’s professional staff, significant collection and range of programs. We scaffold the student’s experience across the whole Gallery team, to ensure an even coverage of all elements of Gallery operations.

Work Experience with Blacktown City Council

Blacktown City Council are committed to providing meaningful work experience opportunities. We see it as a valuable contribution to the community and we will do all that we can to make it a professional, enjoyable and successful program.

Eligibility for work experience placements is normally from students that are currently studying at High School who are currently in Years 10, 11, or 12; TAFE students or University students.

Some of the most popular work experience placements take place in the following areas:

  • Finance
  • Key Venues (leisure and aquatic)
  • Animal Holding Facility
  • International School’s Program, ‘Duke of Edinburgh’
  • Trades (Plumbing, Electrical and Carpentry).

Mediations Australia Scholarship Program

Value: Conference attendance and accommodation up to $1,000

The Mediations Australia Scholarship Program gives one successful student the opportunity to attend for free the widely accepted, best annual mediation conference in Australia, the “National Mediation Conference.”

The National Mediation Conference is a three-day event of which keynote speakers are sourced both nationally and globally to share their insights of mediation in 2020 and beyond.

The successful applicant must be:

  • 18 years or older
  • An undergraduate student in the field of law
  • An interest in alternate dispute resolution.

The Droga Indigenous Architecture Scholarship Program

Value: $50,000 AUD

Open/Closing Dates: November 11, 2019 – February 14, 2020

Established with the aim to develop meaningful representation in Australian Architecture of Indigenous professionals and supporting a thriving Indigenous contribution to architectural culture and production in Australia, representing approaches to issues of design, construction, sustainability and landscape. The scholarship is open to indigenous students undertaking an undergraduate or Masters degree in Architecture at UTS.

  • be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and provide either:
  • be an undergraduate student:
    • commencing full-time enrolment in the Bachelor of Design in Architecture (single or combined), and
    • have achieved an ATAR or equivalent of 69 or above, excluding bonus points or be an applicant who has accepted an offer through the Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research direct entry program, and
    • be a current school leaver, or be a non-current school leaver under 25 years of age at the commencement of the relevant year; and
    • provide a copy of their high school report (showing subjects studied) and if available a school reference, OR
  • be a Masters Student:
    • commencing enrolment in the Masters of Architecture, and
    • have achieved a Weighted Average Mark of 70 or above in the undergraduate degree that formed their basis of admission; or
    • continuing enrolment in the Masters of Architecture having completed no more than 24 credit points, and
    • have achieved a Weighted Average Mark of 50 or above in their Masters undertaken to date, and
    • All Masters applicants must provide a curriculum vitae
    • The Recipient must maintain a minimum Pass (WAM 50+) average in each session

  • All applicants must apply using the UTS online Scholarships Application form to be eligible.
  • All applicants must be available to attend an interview in person.
  • Please submit the online application form by midnight Friday 2nd February 2019.

University of Sydney J Alan Gibson Scholarship

Value: $24,000 per year

Open/Closing Dates: October 1, 2019 – December 1, 2019

This scholarship aims to support recent school leavers from rural and remote areas commencing study in engineering.

You must:

  • be a recent school leaver
  • qualify and enrol into any of the undergraduate programs offered by the Faculty of Engineering
  • be from an outer regional, remote or very remote area as classified by the Australian Statistical Geography Standard
  • demonstrate financial need.

Macquarie Accommodation Scholarship

Value: ~$10,000 per year

Open/Closing Dates: November 1, 2019 – February 21, 2020

The Macquarie Accommodation Scholarship is designed to support regional or rural recipients whose opportunities to study at university may have been hampered by situations out of their control.

The successful applicants for this scholarship will be:

  • Able to demonstrate financial hardship. Applicants need to be in receipt of Youth Allowance or other means tested Commonwealth support.
  • Relocating from a regional or rural area to study at Macquarie University.
  • Studying as an internal student

Consideration is also given to applicants who, in addition to financial hardship, demonstrate any of the following:

  • Capacity to triumph over hardship
  • Indigenous background
  • Carer responsibilities
  • Geographic Disadvantage
  • Non English speaking background
  • Long term medical condition or
  • Ongoing effects of abuse

Value: 50% off accommodation fees

Open/Closing Dates: August 16, 2019 – January 5, 2020

Macquarie University and Iglu – Chatswood are offering scholarships for students to live at Iglu – Chatswood.

The successful applicants for this scholarship will be able to demonstrate:

  • Sufficient academic progression
  • That they are an undergraduate or postgraduate domestic student at Macquarie University
  • Commitment to study
  • A positive contribution to their community through leadership, volunteering or other means

Financial disadvantage and other disadvantages are also considered. These include:

  • Capacity to triumph over hardship
  • Indigenous background
  • Carer responsibilities
  • Geographic disadvantage
  • Non English-speaking background and/or
  • Long term medical condition and/or ongoing effects of abuse.
