Academic Excellence Scheme

The University of Sydney is happy to announce our new Academic Excellence Scheme. From 2020, the Academic Excellence Scheme recognises students who achieve high performance in higher levels of English and mathematics by applying adjustment factors to boost their selection rank for eligible courses.

Key points:

  • Eligible domestic students can have an adjustment of up to 5 points added to their ATAR or equivalent IB score to raise their selection rank (only one subject in either English or mathematics will be considered)
  • Adjustment factors are automatically applied – no application required

Charles Sturt University (CSU)

Interested in studying Engineering? CSU offers Civil Engineering, the course is studied on campus at Bathurst, the Bachelor of Technology (Civil Systems)/Master of Engineering (Civil Systems) and was developed in consultation with industry leaders to meet the demand for entrepreneurial engineers.

Workshops replace lectures, live community projects replace exams and our innovative Topic Tree replaces semester-long subjects. After completing 18 months of on campus study, students then undertake four, one year paid placements in industry, providing professional connections and four years of paid work experience as a graduate.

Entry in to this program is holistic – not only do we look for a minimum selection rank of 80, but applicants are also required to complete a written application and have a formal interview with the Course Director.

The University of Sydney – Broadway (The University of Sydney’s Educational Access Scheme)

Students who have experienced disrupted schooling may be eligible for adjustment factors of up to 10 points (previously five) to boost their selection rank. The increase in the number of adjustment factors awarded is to recognise students who have experienced higher levels of disruption due to circumstances beyond their control.

Macquarie’s Bachelor of Cognitive and Brain Sciences is the only one of its kind in Australia.

Have you ever wondered how we control our bodies without having to think about it?

Understanding how the mind and brain work is one of the greatest scientific challenges of our time. In the Bachelor of Cognitive and Brain Sciences students explore the workings of the brain and cognitive disorders like dyslexia and schizophrenia. This degree explores cognitive science, neuroscience and computation and builds students critical thinking and research skills in our human brain imaging and virtual reality labs.

You can also double the Bachelor of Cognitive and Brain Sciences with any other degree to build an exciting career in tech fields like AI, robotics and human computer interfaces or people-focused fields within the rapidly expanding health industry.

Holiday Workshops

UON | Music And Robotics: School Holiday Workshop

10 October 2019, 9:00 am – 11 October 2019, 3:00 pm

University of Newcastle, Callaghan

If you’re interested in coding or music and are in Year 5-9, this two-day workshop is for you!

Coders: develop your skills through performance based musical robots.

Musicians: learn new performance techniques with robotics.

Student activities include: Learning new coding techniques, using LEGO EV3 Mind storm robots, to create new performance based concepts with acoustic musicians. Teach robots to dance, play music and interact with real life instruments.

Students will work towards a showcase performance that will be held on Friday 11 October at 5:30pm. Skill requirements (not essential): either play an instrument or be interested in coding.

The Oorala Aboriginal Centre Youth Leadership Program is an introduction to university life, personal development and a range of life skills, as well as health, wellbeing and Aboriginal cultural awareness and pride.

The program includes:

  • short lectures and practical sessions run by academic staff at UNE
  • gym and field training sessions and exposure to sports science
  • cultural development sessions to encourage the students to take pride in their Aboriginality
  • developing a set of values to make good decisions
  • panels with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander current UNE students and role models
  • UNE college experience.

These camps are designed to provide an opportunity for students to develop important values and skills such as leadership, learning, culture and wellbeing.
