Sydney University Mathematics Prerequisite Update
There has been an update for students who do not meet the mathematics course prerequisites but already have the required ATAR (or equivalent) for their chosen course, where mathematics prerequisites apply.
These students can apply to transfer to their chosen course after completing one semester of study that includes the required studies in mathematics. Please note: not all courses accept transfers or are available at each intake. Check the course details on the Sydney Uni Find a Course website.
For further information on options for students who do not meet the mathematics prerequisite, which courses the prerequisite applies to, and the accepted units of study at both the university and high school level, please refer to the Sydney Uni website.
Get bonus Uni points with Sydney Youth Orchestra (SYO)
If you’re already enrolled in SYO programs, or you’re thinking about doing it, your participation could earn you adjustment factors towards a University application.
Find out if you’re eligible for the additional points at each of these institutions, then you’ll have to apply:
- ACU’s Elite Athlete and Performer Program (EAPP) could provide you with adjustment points which count towards your application.
- Macquarie Uni’s Elite Athletes and Artistic Performers (EAAP) Scheme could provide you with 4 adjustment points towards your application. Applications open on 17 August 2019 and close on 31 October 2019. You can also apply between 1 – 30 November but you’ll have to pay a late fee of $150 to be considered.
- Southern Cross Uni’sElite Athlete Friendly Program (EAFP) offers amongst other benefits, bonus points towards your admission application.
- You might be eligible for the University of Newcastle’s Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS), and Year 12 Adjustment Scheme (you’ll need to check which degrees Music applies to).
- UNSW’s Elite Athletes, Performers and Leaders (EAPL) program awards up to 5 adjustment factors (bonus points) to applicants who’ve excelled in a number of areas including music, at an elite level. 2020 applications are open now and close on 30 November 2019.
- Through The University of Sydney’s Elite Athletes and Performers Scheme, you might be considered for admission to a course if your ATAR is up to 5 points below the one you’re applying for. On-time applications close 5pm Thursday 31 October 2019.
- UTS’ Elite Athletes and Performers Special Admissions Schemeoffer students who’ve had their studies disrupted in high school (due to performing at state / national level events and competitions), a chance to get up to 5 adjustment points on their Selection Ranking (SR). Applications close on 30 November 2019.
- At UOW, SYO students are eligible to apply for the Early Admission Program(applications close 30 August 2019), and both the catchment and equity adjustment schemes. For closing dates for the adjustment point schemes, refer to UAC’s key dates.
- WSUElite Athletes or Performers Scheme could entitle you to 5 bonus points to boost your Selection Ranking. Applications in 2018 closed on the 30 November, so it could be around the same time this year, but you’ll need to check with WSU.
Don’t forget to double check when the application opens and closing dates are, as well as the supporting documentation you’ll need to provide.
It’s well worth applying as most of these programs offer other benefits too, they could help see you through your degree more easily.

Study Natural History Illustration with UoN
The University of Newcastle is offering a short, fully online course called Drawing Nature, Science and Culture: Natural History Illustration 101.
The course runs for six weeks, giving you the skills to create accurate and stunning replications of subjects from the natural world. You will learn things such as:
- Core scientific observational skills
- Field drawing and sketching techniques
- Concept sketch development
- Composition for natural history illustration
- Form, proportion and structure essentials
- Drawing and rendering techniques

New Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence at Deakin
Deakin University will be offering their Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence starting in 2020.
This brand new course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills used to design and develop industry solutions in artificial intelligence. As artificial intelligence becomes more popular, so does demand for professionals with the skills to help implement the technology in the workplace and beyond.
The course involves a wide range of study areas, including mathematics, programming, data and network management, and much more. There is also the opportunity to undertake work experience and full-time industry placements as part of the degree.
Deakin are currently offering this course at their Melbourne Burwood campus, and online.

This is the required exam if you want to apply to US colleges and if you’re in Year 11, now is the time to take the test so you don’t have to take it in Year 12.

We’re looking for switched-on and future orientated school leavers who want to make an impact on the business world, and who can confidently represent the Torrens University Australia brand as an Ambassador at events and on social media.
Torrens University Australia scholarships will be awarded to business-minded school leavers who display the following attributes:
Academic Drive: Ability to demonstrate a dedication to your academic studies, and a passion for studying and achieving high results.
Community Minded: Understand social cause and be willing to get involved and be proactive with volunteering and/or community involvement.

We are passionate about the world of design and believe that given the opportunity any idea can change the world. So, we’re on the hunt for high achieving creative individuals to stand with us and springboard into their future careers and receive $10,000 towards their course fees.
Our scholarships are open to high achieving school leavers, those who have worked in design or established professionals ready to return to study for a postgraduate course. To apply, you’ll need to complete the following:

Upload your favourite piece of creative work to your Frontier profile, this is your chance to show off your creative and technical skills that make you unique. Your submission can take any form, as long as it is relevant and related to your chosen course area.

Eva Burrows Australian Scholarship for Women
Value: $25,000

The Eva Burrows Australian Scholarship for Women will be awarded to a woman who has undertaken substantial paid or unpaid work for The Salvation Army in the previous two years and seeking support to develop their leadership capabilities.
Who can apply?
I am a citizen or permanent resident of Australia.
I am a woman who has undertaken substantial paid and/or unpaid work in frontline Salvation Army service in the last two years.
I am over 25 years of age at the time of application.
I am in good physical and emotional health.
I consider myself a role model in my area of influence.
I am able to set out a clear study proposal that identifies the benefit to their leadership and service that the study will bring.
I can meet the entry requirements of my proposed study.
I have not previously been a recipient of the Eva Burrows Scholarship.
2020 Pinnacle Foundation Scholarships
Value: $5,000
Open/Closing Dates: July 8, 2019 – September 15, 2019
The Pinnacle Foundation provides Scholarships for students between the ages of 17-26, who are planning to study full-time education at a public or private secondary school (final year) or public institution of higher education in Australia, for the purpose of gaining an educational or vocational qualification in any profession, trade or the arts.
All Scholarships are open to anyone who meet the following criteria:
Is an Australian citizen of at least 17 up to 26 years of age at the time the Scholarships applications close
Is a permanent resident of Australia
Has because of their gender identity, sexual orientation or characteristics been prevented or hindered from completing their education
Is a serious, consistent student who has achieved acceptable scholastic results given their background and circumstances
Is able to demonstrate a commitment to completing Year 12 of the student’s secondary education, a tertiary degree or vocational training (as the case may be), and
demonstrates pride in and dedication to the LGBTIQ+ community.
2020 Tibra Capital Corporate Scholarship
Value: $7,000
Open/Closing Dates: July 1, 2019 – November 30, 2019
Do you love Maths, Finance or Computer Science? Have you achieved an ATAR of 90 or above? Are you planning to study at the University of Wollongong? If yes, then you are eligible to apply for the Tibra Capital Corporate Scholarship valued at $7,000.
Application Criteria
Applicants must be commencing study in 2020 as a full-time first year undergraduate student at UOW (no previous enrolment at UOW);
Applicants must receive an offer for a B/Mathematics, B/Mathematics Advanced, B/Mathematics and Finance, B/Computer Science or any Mathematics double degree at UOW, commencing in Autumn Session 2020;
The successful applicants must have achieved an ATAR of 90 or above (or equivalent);
Applicants must be an Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.
2020 The Stevenson Family Scholarship in Social Work
Value: $24,000
Open/Closing Dates: July 23, 2019 – November 30, 2019
The Stevenson Family Scholarship is offered as an encouragement to prospective students who are seeking to improve the lives of others through the completion of a Bachelor of Social Work.
Application Criteria
Successful applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Wollongong in 2020.
Successful applicants must maintain enrolment in a Bachelor of Social Work.
Applicants must be an Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.
Mature age students are encouraged to apply.
Preference will be given to applicants who originate from the Southern Highlands region.
Applicants are required to demonstrate community involvement via submission of a written statement.
Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship
