Congratulations to everyone on their dedication and commitment so far; however it is not over! There is still an expectation for everyone to continue to attend Thursday afternoon trainings up until the competition begins. It is also my goal to have everyone involved in some capacity, as we look to build on a great squad we have so far.

Keep up the great work girls, and don’t forget that there is a yoga session available from 7:00am – 8:00am on Thursday 1 March in the gym (let me know if are planning on attending).

LORETO SPORTS GIRL: ABBIE mCeVOY

Current sport/activity: Rowing.

Favourite school sport/activity: Rowing and netball.

Highest level of sporting achievement: I have competed at nationals for rowing the past three years and placed at state competitions, recently coming 5th overall in the U21 Four at state last weekend.

Best moment of Loreto Sport for you: I’ve had a lot of great memories over the years, but I would have to say one of my favourite moments, was the nationals camp last year, we turned up to this deserted-looking place at night, in the pouring rain with no  dinner. All the rooms where filled with dolls and old fashioned decorations/bed sheets. However, over the four days this place became home, exploring the old broken down bus and playground, listening to some of the girls play on the piano and of course, the bon fires we had every night before heading back to our rooms. This experience brought us all so much closer, as this unfamiliar environment brought the best out of everyone, making this experience one of the best memories not only at Loreto, but in my life.

Favourite sporting moment as a spectator: It’s the best feeling when there are around ten or more girls standing on the rocks at SIRC (Sydney International Regatta Centre), cheering as loud as they can to support the Normo crews racing down the course. The feeling gets even better when you see those Normo boats either overtake a crew, catch up, or get out ahead.

Best subject at school: Legal and Religion.

Any superstitions before playing sport: Before all my competitions the whole crew will shake hands down the boat to show we’ve got each other back’s while wishing good luck to each other. Then I’ll take two sips of water and pour the rest of my water out, except just enough for one sip after the race!

Best tune to listen to before competing:

• 300 violin Orchestra – Jorge Quintero
• Roxanne – the police
• All the way up – Calvin Harris
• Not giving in – rudimental
• When the fire starts to burn – disclosure

PHOTOS

We love seeing photos of our girls enjoying sport, but unfortunately we can’t be everywhere at once. If you’re out and about over the weekend at your daughter’s fixtures, please send through any snaps you get to sport@loretonh.nsw.edu.au.
