Touch Football

We had a number of girls represent IGSSA in both the 15/U and Open teams at the CIS Touch Football Championships this week, with IGSSA performing strongly as usual. Further congratulations to Tatum Bird (Year 11), Kiara Williams-Browne (Year 11), and Jessica Drummond (Year 11), for their selection into the CIS Opens Touch Football Team and to Zoe Warland (Year 10) and Emma Vandervelde (Year 9) for their selection into the CIS 15/U Touch Football Team. Both teams will participate in a training camp later this year before competing at the Touch National Youth Championships and NSW All Schools Touch Football Championships respectively. Good luck to all those girls involved.

Equestrian

We wish our equestrian girls the best of luck as they compete at the Coonabarabran Expo. This is an annual event, stretching across a range of horse sport competitions, from dressage and show jumping to polocrosse and barrel racing. Thank you to Mrs Lisa Soames for her work as parent team manager. I’m sure the week will be fantastic fun and the girls will achieve some excellent results.

Performance Dance Troupe

Last Sunday, our Performance Dance Troupe performed in the DanceLife Unite Eisteddfod at UNSW. This was their first eisteddfod as a group and they performed exceptionally well, receiving a Highly Commended in a very competitive section! Well done to the girls and to Ms Carly Rosser for her expertise and guidance of the girls.

Athletics

A great performance last weekend by our runners who competed in the Balmoral Burn. Competitors run up Awaba Street, Mosman; one of Sydney’s steepest streets. The street stretches for 420 metres from Balmoral Beach up to Spit Road in Mosman. At its steepest the gradient is nearly 30%, and over its length it rises about 70 metres. Eliza Harvey (Year 11), Lauren Marshall (Year 11), Katie Morris (Year 11) and Daniella Bianchi (Year 11) finished 4th overall in their division which is an excellent achievement – well done girls!

Loreto sports girl profile: Katherine Morris

Current sport/activity: Athletics, Touch, Football, Hockey and Badminton.
Favourite school sport/activity: Athletics – I love running and it comes in super handy on any field/court.
Highest level of sporting achievement: Taking out Gold for Loreto in the Intermediate Sprint Medley at the Athletics NSW School relays last year.
Best moment of Loreto Sport for you: Being part of the winning Aston senior relay team at the school athletics carnival this year and the sense of pride I felt looking over at the rest of Aston house cheering wildly in the stands.
Favourite sporting moment as a spectator: Watching the Loreto Normanhurst Junior 1sts hockey team win their grand final in 2016 right before our final.
Best subject at school:  Anything but English :\
Any superstitions before playing sport?:  When I have a race I always have to wear really really THICK SOCKS!
Best tune to listen to before competing? Playing some pump-up jams on the speaker when you’re warming up before a game are  great but nothing’s better than playing the classic “We Are The Champions” as you walk past your opposition after a great win!!!!

Photos

We love seeing photos of our girls enjoying sport, but unfortunately we can’t be everywhere at once. If you’re out and about over the weekend at your daughter’s fixtures, please send through any snaps you get to sport@loretonh.nsw.edu.au.

If you’re on Twitter, you can follow us at @loretonhsport – tweet us and use the hashtag #LetsGoLoreto and we’ll retweet as many as we can!
