Primary School News

‘I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book!  When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.’

Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen

Australia! Story Country,’ was the theme for this year’s Book Week. The Primary School was transformed into a story book wonderland as the girls streamed into the Learning Common. The Book Week parade saw Cruella Deville, Mr Men, Dorothy, Willy Wonka, the Queen of Hearts and the entire cast of Harry Potter just to name a few. The parents cheered and clapped as the girls and teachers made their way down the run way. Special commendation was awarded to Lara Granelli (5A) and Bridget Quirk (6H) for their commitment to Library lessons. The winners of the colouring competition were Maddie Hinds (5R), Pavarisa Wen (5A), Audrey Kha (6B) and Kate Walters (6H).  Thank you to our wonderful librarian, Sybylla Melvyn from ‘My Brilliant Career’ (Mrs Walton) for such a wonderful day. Thank you Ms Watkins, Ms Ugonotti, Mrs Stooke and the parents for their attendance. We look forward to author Belinda Murrell visiting us next week.

The countdown is on for the Kidpreneur Market Day which will take place next Friday, 9 September from 10.00am-1.00pm. Congratulations to the girls who represented Loreto Normanhurst at the IPSHA Athletics Carnival on Monday. Zoe Clubb (Year 5) and Charlotte Curran (Year 6) were successful in making the IPSHA Representative Athletics Team. They will compete at the NSWCIS Athletics Carnival in September. We wish them the best of luck. Full results are available in the Sport section of this week’s newsletter.

Next Wednesday Eliza Rossell from Year 6 will be competing in the Australian Inter-Schools Snow Sports Championships in Perisher. She has qualified for the Snowboard X event and just missed out by one place in the Giant Slalom Event. This is a fantastic achievement and we wish Eliza the very best of luck.
