Pastoral Care

 Old/New Student Council Handover afternoon

Leadership at Loreto Normanhurst is more than being that person who ‘leads or commands a group, organization or country’. It is about remaining true to yourself, getting to know others and living out the values of the Loreto tradition inspired by Mary Ward. This week the old Student Council and New Student Council met to talk about the importance of commitment, team work and delegation of which is integral to good leadership. A sufficient balance of these three elements is what will guide the Loreto Leaders and Year 12 cohort of 2017, as they continue to lead the school. The class of 2016, has no doubt you will continue to lead the school well through your optimistic and creative flare.

This handover event has become a tradition and is a symbol of the practical side of handing over of leadership. The old House Council members reflected on their journey as leaders and living the value of Felicity and they shared profound wisdom and valuable practical tips with us all. They prepared the now famous colourful ‘boxes’ filled with many little things required within each role and it was with much joy and honesty that they shared these items for the respective leadership positions. Their final message to the new leaders is ‘Good luck and enjoy the last year at Loreto Normanhurst, embrace the endless opportunities available as high school is honestly some of the best years of your life’.

Relationships – Integrity

“Wisdom is knowing what path to take, integrity is taking it.”

Integrity essentially is being who we say we are and doing what we say we will do. It is  about being authentic.

People seek out integrity. They want ideas, people and actions on which they can meaningfully rely. They want to relate to people they can believe in. Integrity is the quality that answers the question, “can I rely on you to do the right thing?”

“Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them become what they are capable of being”.

Reminders

When your daughter is Absent from School

There are two ways to contact the school

  1. Email: attendance@loretonh.nsw.edu.au , or
  1. Phone: Student Attendance Line on 02 9473 7354 – leave a message that includes your daughter’s name, House, Year and short reason for her absence.

Please inform the school of your daughter’s absence before 8:30 am.

If your daughter’s absence remains unexplained after 8:45 am, a text (SMS) message will be sent to your mobile phone reminding you to contact the school and explain her absence.

On your daughter’s return to school, a signed note explaining her absence must be provided. You can use the perforated slips in the back of your daughter’s Student Handbook. The signature of the parent or guardian is essential. The written note must be handed in on her return to school even if an email or phone call was made earlier. The note must be handed into Student Reception within seven days of the absence. The absence note is a legal requirement.

Partial Absence:

If your daughter arrives to school after 8:20 am, she will be required to sign in late using her Student ID Card. It is expected that she will have a note to explain her lateness – there are perforated slips in the back of each Student Handbook.

If your daughter is required to leave the school grounds earlier than 3:15 pm, she will be required to sign out using her Student ID Card. A permission note not an email must be provided, clearly stating the reason for the leave and the time of departure. Again, the signature of the parent or guardian is essential.

Please contact me via  email or 94873488 if you have any questions.
