Year 10 Subject Selection for Year 11 2017

On Tuesday 14 June a Subject Information Evening will be held for parents and students for Year 11, 2017. The purpose of this evening is to provide information to help your daughter decide which subjects she wishes to study in her senior years. You would have received an email with details about this event earlier this week.

We have been preparing the Year 10 students for subject selections for Year 11 2017.  As mentioned in last week’s Newsletter the timeline has been discussed with Year 10 students.  On Monday 6 June and Tuesday 7 June the Heads of Department will be presenting an outline of courses to students to help them make an informed decision about their choices.

Over the next few weeks the students will be interviewed by teachers and Deans who have been briefed about the subject selection process. In preparation for this the students filled in an online reflection form.  This had a positive response with 141  students completing the survey which is a commendable return rate and reflects the seriousness with which Year 10 are engaging in the subject selection process.

The issues discussed in the interviews might filter back to family discussions about subject selection.   There are a few key areas we wish Year 10 students to reflect upon.  Firstly, to consider subjects they are interested and passionate about so they can engaged in them for two years. Secondly, we would like the girls to reflect on their academic strengths, areas to improve and their work ethic. Thirdly, as the interview unfolds there will be specific items to consider such as, how subject interest may shape career options and the need for specific decisions about courses in subject.

We hope you are looking forward to Subject Selection Evening on  Tuesday 14 June to assist  Year 10 make informed decisions about their subject selections for Year 11 2017.
